Located in the hills above Nuits St Georges and close to the major village of Beaune in the heart of the Burgundy region. Meyrieux was purchased by Jean-Luc Sylvain in 2010. Meyrieux is an artisanal cooperage driven by a passion for the fundamental elements required to craft barrels to the highest standards. Particular attention is focused to raw material selection understanding this forms the basis on which quality and consistency can be crafted. To this end the cooperage benefits from relationship with the larger Sylvain cooperage in sourcing direct from the forest through Sylvain’s purchasing resources. Traditional open chimney stacking is employed to ensure optimal and complete natural air-drying of staves for a minimum of 24 months at the cooperage. Despite the obvious benefits of this seasoning method it is rarely employed due to the time and space required, one of the benefits of an artisan cooperage committed to quality.
